Values & Philosophy

values_philosophyOur purpose is to enrich and add value to all individuals and influence the future youth through our camp. At Generation Ireland Camp, we believe in helping to build the well rounded child and using our time with them effectively and make a positive difference, with an Irish flavour, in their young lives.
Your camper will learn to become independent while being guided by our camp community. Through the encouragement of our highly trained and diverse staff, and with the support of their fellow campers, your camper will be challenged to step outside of their comfort zone and gain self confidence and increased self esteem with our planned pulse racing activities. These experiences, with our years of Irish tradition & culture, truly create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

ONLY THE VERY BEST become Generation ireland COUNSELORS

Generation Ireland prides itself on having one of the finest counseling and management teams in Ireland. With a year round staff selection, special effort is given to the hiring and training of quality individuals for our camps. In addition to carefully selected applicants attending interviews, all contracted staff attend 5 days of specialized training carried out by the National Youth Council of Ireland, ensuring the upmost in safety and welfare of all our campers.

All staff members are trained in Child Protection, Equality & Interculturalism. We also require all staff to hold a current certificate in CPR and First Aid training. All our service providers for activities and watersports are required to have lifeguard training as well. A ratio of approximately one staff for every five campers gives each camper the individual attention and companionship necessary for a meaningful camp experience. All counselors are at least 18 years of age and have a year of college or equivalent experience.
More important than these numbers is the quality of our staff. When hiring, we look for young men and women who have proven success working with children as volunteers, mentors, tutors and teachers. Selection favors staff with education backgrounds and certifications in our core activities including a love of the Irish language, dance and singing!

Potential counselors must also demonstrate achievement in leadership situations. All counselors must have personal values which make them role models worth emulating for our campers.

CAMP MOM

Unique to Generation Ireland is our Camp Mom position. We have a camp mom who is available and acts as liaison between parent and camper. We will have a unique phone number which we will use on “WhatsApp”. She will give daily updates, send on photos etc so you can feel connected as we recognize the huge importance for parents to be informed and feel connected to their children while they are so far away from home. The Camp Mom is happy to answer any questions a parent may have while their camper is enjoying camp. The Camp Mom often becomes the most beloved member of staff for our campers.

Life at the Hostel

Our luxury hostel is a Fáilte Ireland approved hostel situated in a stunning corner of Ireland in County Donegal. This Donegal Youth Hostel lies at the foot of Donegal’s highest mountain, Errigal Mountain.
Errigal Hostel prides itself on being Green and was awarded EU ECO Flower Label. The hostel and staff won the Trip Advisor award of excellence in 2016.
This impressive custom-built Donegal Hostel had €3 million invested in it in recent years to make the accommodation as modern and sustainable as possible. It has an energy efficient wood pellet boiler, energy saving lighting, water saving measures and composting and recycling of most materials. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used in the hostel.
4 bedded and 6 bedded rooms with breath-taking views overlooking the Poison Glen and Errigal Mountain.
Campers live in gender specific floors throughout the course of their stay at Generation Ireland. A typical room will have 6 or 4 campers with counselors overseeing their health and welfare at all times, 24/7. Our hostel is resort style accommodations complete with air conditioning, electricity, and indoor restroom and shower facilities. Most beds are single sized bunk beds. Camper comfort is a top priority here at Generation Ireland Camp!

What's on the menu

We are very eager to provide a healthy, well balanced diet for all our campers here at Generation Ireland. We provide 3 meals per day which feature at least two main entrees plus a daily salad & fruit bar. Other choices may include a potato bar, taco bar, or a pasta bar. There are always vegetarian options for each meal. All meals are served buffet style and allow campers an ‘all you can eat’ experience. Our camp counsellors are trained to monitor camper diets, making sure that campers eat sufficiently and that meals are well balanced. If your camper has special dietary needs please note them on the medical form.

F.A.Q.S.

How do our children travel to your camp from the USA?

We will travel to the USA and meet you at the Airport in either NYC or Boston, we will then accompany your child onto the plane, travel with them the entire journey to Ireland. We also provide the same accompaniment service for the homeward journey too! As parents we have made our camps as easily accessible and family friendly to ensure both Parents and children are fully supported throughout their Generation Ireland camp experience.

Does my child need pocket money in Ireland?

As we are based in a different country, and as Children may want to but some souvenirs and gifts for family etc. we suggest no more than €200 be sent with children to camp. We can arrange to assist the children with minding their money if requested in advance. They will have an opportunity to go shopping on our day trips. We will also be making Irish traditional crafts that they can bring home so this is a mere suggestion, not a necessity.

What happens if my child gets homesick?

We are very experienced in dealing with children travelling away from home, from as young as ten years old. We will give comfort and support, love and kindness with a yummy hot chocolate topped with marshmellows to children as needed. We intend for the children to be too busy to be homesick, but if this occurs we will council and comfort your child and we will contact you via our Camp Mom and keep you updated at all times.

What kind of clothes should my child bring to Ireland? Summer clothes?

We have great variety of weather available to us in Ireland. We are famous for having “ all four seasons in 1 day” We will send you a brochure with all the information you need to prepare for your child’s trip to Ireland, including a full list of clothing required etc.
Any further questions please use the “Contact us” selection and we will be happy to answer all your queries.
